[ Cain knew exactly what to do, and thanks to him, this battle was over quickly. As much as he likes to show off, he'd rather danger be dealt with swiftly. ]
Ah, no. Red magic isn't tied to any one element. It's sort of a categorization, more than anything else. White magic has many healing and nature-based spells, like the ability to manipulate wind or earth. Black magic is hard-hitting and destructive, with lots of fire, ice, and lightning spells. Red magic is a combination of the two schools, though we've a few tricks of our own, like the sword you saw earlier.
Handy tricks! Any chance you'd be willing to teach them?
[ He's interested even in the theory, has been curious ever since he came to this world about all the different systems of magic that he's encountered. Even if he can't use the spells himself, knowing how they work is something that seems like it'd come in handy. ]
I'm not what you'd call a mage myself, but I can use combat magic well enough. I'd be happy to share what I know of the pursuit in return, or anything else you'd care to know about me.
[ Or if X'rhun wants to put him to work, well, a bit of physical labor is hardly the worst thing in the world, especially in payment for learning something so useful as what Cain's seen in their team up. ]
I have been known to take on a student or two, and gladly, but there is a bit of a catch in this place. I do not know if you’re able to use the magic of my home world.
[ He would love to take on more pupils, honestly. Red magic had all but died out with the destruction of the Crimson Duelists, and again with the loss of his world. To be able to spread it again would be wondrous, but it’s more complicated than that in a place like this, with people from many different worlds with different kinds of magic, and magic that derives from different sources than that of Hydaelyn. ]
But I would be glad to do what I can, even if that is only speak of it. Anything you can tell me about the magic of your own world or ever yourself would be most welcome in exchange. Even if it turns out you are unable to be my student, I am never one to turn down a friend.
[ Even if Cain can't put the lessons into practice, it's still time well spent. Learning about each other, about other worlds, making allies — what else are they supposed to do if they want to have a chance of stopping the Storm? There's now way they can do it without working together, pooling all their resources. ]
But for now, we should get going. Don't want any more of those leviathans to show up, I'm a little tired of wet clothes.
[ Cain settles himself on the boat, twisting to sit up and sit crosslegged. He holds his sword over his lap, loathe to sheathe it before it's dry. It's not ideal, but this way it's also at the ready if they do run into any more trouble. ]
Just a bit of combat magic. Nothing quite so fantastic as what you called, but I've some affinity with earth spells.
[ Oh good, that means he can stretch out and relax and let the sun bake him dry. Maybe even a nap...? A nap would be nice after that fight. ]
It's just the element of spells, not a broader discipline. Back home, people are attuned to elements, earth, fire, water, wind, dark, or light. Healing or combat magic aren't picky about what you channel, for the most part.
I don't know about at birth, but it's something innate and not easily changed. I've heard of only a few who can call upon more than one element, and then only through rather extraordinary circumstances.
♦ CAIN
It showed.

[ It's a start, anyway, and if it turns out Cain is able to learn the magic, then that's just a bonus.
At Cain's prompting, he takes up the oars to resume their trek yet again. ]
There was some magic in your final blow to the serpent, was there not?

[ Cain can play lookout while X'rhun keeps rowing. ]
What does earth magic entail where you are from?

Are you attuned to an element at birth or is this something you choose?
