[ Well, the man certainly wastes no time getting up to X’rhun, which he’s grateful for. Miqo’te are a rather short species, and he has no desire to get taller by having some thieving tree stretch him out. ]
This is quite the way to get acquainted, isn’t it?
[ Not that he wants to plummet to the ground, either, so he’ll make a grab for the man should all the branches give way. ]
[ Yes, the stranger is in distress, but the danger isn't immediate so far. He could have come across this cat-eared man after he'd been badly injured, for instance. 76 realizes that the guy is trying to make light of the strange situation, but leave it to him to bring it down.
Now to actually bring things down. 76 starts to saw at the branches that are wrapped around the stranger's body, and as soon as he can tell that they're going to snap, he jerks his arm forward, giving the guy as much of a chance to grab hold of him before he falls.
It's the sort of thing that might have broken someone else's arm, or at least dislocated their shoulder, but he's confident that he can bear the other man's weight. ]
[ Lightly. He’s very aware of all the ways this could be worse. The tree could be trying to eat him, or squeeze him to death. The tree could be a morbol instead. The possibilities are endless.
X’rhun may not be a super soldier like some people, but he’s pretty agile even for his age. When the branches finally release him, he snaps a hand out, catching hold of the other man. He swings there a moment, breathing out a small sigh of relief before he realizes the damnable tree still has his hat. ]
[ Well, that much is true. It can always be worse. A statement that manages to be both pessimistic and optimistic at the same time. It gives 76 some idea of who he's dealing with here.
Said stranger is currently hanging from his arm, though. It would be a normally impossible feat, but 76 actually lifts his whole arm, with the entire weight of another person hanging from it, until it's high enough that X'rhun should be able to reach out for one of the branches.
He doesn't give an explanation for how he can do any of this. If the guy has questions, he can ask them when they're a safe distance away from this tree. ]
[ X’rhun has seen a lot of things in his day, and a man who can lift him easily with one arm isn’t really all that out there. A little odd, and maybe worth mentioning later, but for now there is the issue of his captive hat.
He has his priorities straight, clearly.
Once he’s in range of a branch, he grabs hold of it with his free hand, releasing the stranger only after he’s sure he’s not going to fall. A little maneuvering nets him a decent place to stand, and he draws his rapier. His hat isn’t so far gone that its beyond the reach of his blade, thankfully, so with a few quick, precise swipes of his sword, his hat is freed. X’rhun snatches it as it falls, and elects to keep it in hand rather than on his head at this point. ]
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had just about all I can take of nature for the moment. Shall we descend?
[ If 76 had realized why it was that the other man wanted to be pulled up into the tree, he might not have been so willing to indulge him. They went to all of this trouble because of a hat? He can think of one other person who would care so much about their headgear, and he wouldn't have wanted to give McCree the time of day to chase down his hat either.
It's all over and done with at this point, though, so there's not much reason to grouse about it. At least actually retrieving the hat had been an easy enough task, once the stranger himself had been freed.
Descending sounds like a plan, and 76 nods before he slides down as much of the trunk as he can, then leaps the rest of the distance to land in a crouch. He wastes no time in putting distance between himself and the tree; there's no telling what else it might try to grab. Thankfully his side-arm is still safe, so he retrieves that and holsters it.
Once the stranger has joined him, 76 huffs out a breath against his visor and shakes his head. ] You couldn't have just bought a new one?
[ X’rhun does a little hopping from branch to branch to get back down to the ground, and thankfully now that he’s aware of its penchant for getting grabby, the tree branches move slowly enough that he’s able to avoid them.
Only once he’s back on the ground and well away from the tree with the stranger does he put his hat back on his head— his hat which is now under question, it seems. ]
I beg your pardon? Just where am I to get another hat like this?
[ The amount of offense in his tone is so overdone it can only be a joke. He levels out to something a bit more even when he adds, ]
Besides, this hat has been with me since well before I found myself here. I am not about to give it up that easily, least of all to a tree.
[ The other man is a little more cautious in his descent, but he is pretty agile. It's hard not to make the comparison to a cat, given those ears and tail. 76 has to imagine that most people would have already blurted something out about it by now, so he'll give himself credit for that, at least.
The haughty attitude causes 76 to roll his eyes, though his reaction is masked by the visor. That's probably for the best. This guy's not serious, is he?
Then again, this isn't the first time that 76 has seen someone cling to one of the few items they have from home. It's understandable, when they've already lost so much.
76 steals a glance back at the tree, which seems to have calmed down now that they're out of its range. ] Gotta say, I wasn't expecting that. [ He returns his attention to the stranger. ] Your name?
