Ah, good! I was wondering if you'd come to adapt in time.
[ He sees the aim of her game and reaches over with his own oar to help flip the beast over. Not, it doesn't look like it fared very well from any angle. ]
Its head should be mostly in-tact, if a bit frozen. Mayhap we can gather some scales there, or teeth or some such.
I cannot sense heavy concentrations of aether as I could before, but perhaps that too will come in time. [a sigh] It is a foreign world indeed.
Hmm.. Perhaps if we sever the head itself, and bring that back alone? The ice should help preserve it some, and I think there's enough spare rope in here to manage the job. [said, as she starts looking under the benches, pulling free line and netting while looking for more secure rope]
Though I will admit that facing down a hungry beast has almost made it feel like home.
[ He gives the serpent a once over, wondering just how they’re going to manage to get its head free from its body with naught but a rapier between them, but Ysayle’s remark about the ice sparks an idea. ]
I think we can manage it. If you’re able to freeze its neck, just there— [ he points ] –I should be able to break the head off somewhat cleanly. Then we can lash it to the boat and be on our way.
[ She's resting fingers against her chin in thought when X'rhun has his eureka moment, and there's a blink before she follows the line from his hand to the serpent's corpse. Freeze it..Hmm. ]
I can certainly try. We're certainly close enough.
[ With that, she retrieves her scepter, holding it before her, directing full attention to her target. She can feel the familiar hum of magic rising through her, aether singing in cold artic tunes, before the air around the beast's neck begins to mist, swirling and pale, the temperature dipping as pale blue and white crystals materialise. The water too seems to form a thin layer of ice, and slowly the blizzard sale sinks into the serpent, freezing it hard. ]
Regular enough. I spent the better part of the last two decades wandering Eorzea, and there was always creatures a-plenty out in the wilds.
[ He falls quiet as Ysayle sets to work, unconsciously hugging his arms around himself as the ambient temperature drops yet again. He seems to have the opposite problem as Ysayle- Seekers of the Sun weren't meant to be out in the cold. ]
Easy, don't overtax yourself. I think that will suffice just fine.
[ With a gentle hand, he guides her away from the serpent. There is a flash of light, and more swords of light suddenly appear hovering over the red mage. He sends them at the serpent one at a time in quick succession, not unlike driving a wedge into a block of ice with a hammer. It's not pretty, but the force is enough to crack the frozen flesh of the serpent, breaking its head away from its body. ]
That's right.. I apologise, I should have remembered your travels took you so far a field. [her head tips slightly] I don't suppose you encountered any hoarhounds on your travels?
[ Given the command to stop, her own breath seems to swirl in a cloud of frost before her. Then she sits back, letting the scepter slip from her hand to clatter to the bottom of the boat. Overtaxing herself? That, she was certainly close to; what good fortunate she has, to be in the company of one use to tutoring mage students!
The flash and gleam of swords is the prettier sight. This sort of magic is beyond her, but she can take the time to admire it nonetheless. ]
[it had never occurred to her to ask before, but:] Were you to wield a different type of blade, would your magics change the spell appearance to match? Or is the rapier the only weapon that red mages avail themselves of?
[ Asked while carefully pulling free the netting beneath their seats. ALl the better to use to bundle up their prize and drag it back through the water with them.
